Just a point of reference on this... working where I do, we face this question a lot. The general answer for us is that you cannot support unrestricted HTML codes because that would allow such things Javascript being embedded into a page, which could then do, potentially, all sorts of nastiness.
If this system provides limited HTML, such a request might be possible. But, you run a big risk with unrestricted HTML support
"Just because someone's a member of an ethnic minority doesn't mean they're not a nasty small-minded little jerk" Captain Carrot quoting Commander Vimes to Commander Vimes, Feet of Clay, Terry Pratchett
Looks like you might be able to just type it in. Although, I am seeing a portion under all the available smileys called "Options" which lists, amongst other things:
HTML is <u>ON</u>
Might be you can disable HTML in the user account settings?
Well, I was trying some imbedded html which was a cut and paste link, but it didn't work out. I assume it's a subset of formatting codes allowing you to use <u>underline</u>, <b>bold</b>, <i>italics</i>, etc.
